To combine state-of-the-art medication therapy with compassionate psychotherapy for symptom relief, practical problem solving and psychological insight into feelings and behaviors. Therapy with is a conversational dialog. My expertise in psychopharmacology is aimed towards a personalized approach that uses the scientifically verified evidence adjusted for the nuances of an individual's personal experience. Sometimes, a careful and discerning evaluation may suggest that medication would NOT be helpful, and that treatment be talk therapy only. Often, medication and talk therapy are used together. I do not think of talk therapy as a "cure" but a "collaboration" in a search for better ways of thinking and responding to living situations. Therapy is a matter of persuasion through a joint effort, in order to understand life circumstances and challenges you are facing. I work with people who are ill, or who are feeling overmastered or distressed, helping them to find other ways to think, imagine and respond in life situations. The goal of psychotherapy is to reduce emotional distress and the accompanying sense of being out of control. Patients are encouraged to ask questions and to work together with me towards answers. We collaborate to make sense of psychiatric symptoms and overwhelming circumstances in order to find a way of responding that can relieve the feelings of demoralization that accompany them.
